A bit on the realistic side
I started the lockdown full on with sharing things and stuff to do. And then I got sick, and everything got a bit blurry, and I not only stayed at home but stayed in bed. I’m ok, just some difficulties breathing sometimes. It keeps you awake.
I got back into my comfort zone. I drew in bed. I relinked with my love of details, with digital painting. I know it’s a bit unusual, but I have been a texture artist, painting highly realistic textures for award winning movies, since I’m out of school, something like 30 years ago. I slowed down when I became a mom and a children illustrator, and I was also learning new medias. Life isn’t fun if you’re not learning!
Stuck in bed, wide awake in the dark, I couldn’t possibly paint gouaches or watercolor, right? So I went back to Procreate, learned properly how to use the new version, and drowned in the delight of drawing very small details with little bits of pixelated light.
My friend Clo suggested to re-make an old IG challenge we did in 2015, home inspired illustrations and photos #mamaisonenimages. The idea was to re-appropriate our homes in lockdown, following a comforting path, reliving good moment to help fight with the stress. Because I had a lot of time on my hands it came naturally to pair that with my love of detail and textures, and voila : a month of illustrations:
